The Kigezi region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, has condemned the increasing cases of domestic violence in the area, noting with concern that some incidents have tragically resulted in deaths.
While speaking during Eid Al-Adha prayers at Masjid Jaamia Kirigime Mosque in Kabale Municipality on Friday, Maate urged families to resolve disputes amicably and embrace forgiveness and reconciliation.
He emphasized the importance of remorse and the power of a simple apology in healing family rifts.
“Children and wives deserve love and care. Homes should be places of comfort, not suffering,” he said.
Maate called on families to foster love, mutual respect, and unity not only within their households but also within their communities.
Addressing the Muslim faithful, he encouraged them to rise above tribal, religious, and political differences, and instead promote togetherness in times of both hardship and celebration.
In light of the ongoing political season, Maate reminded residents to observe the law and conduct all political activities peacefully. He urged political players to avoid inflammatory remarks and embrace mature, unifying politics.
On matters of security, Maate reassured the public of the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order. He encouraged citizens to report errant officers instead of generalizing the entire police force based on the misconduct of a few.
