KATAKWI: Retired agriculturalist Mr. Edeket Venasio has called on parents to prioritize the education of both their sons and daughters as a way to ensure equal opportunities for all children.
Mr. Edeket emphasized that with government-aided primary and secondary schools now available in all sub-counties, parents must take responsibility to ensure their children, both boys and girls, have access to education up to the university level.
A proud alumnus of Teso College, Mr. Edeket recalled how, in 1980, a group of Old Boys, including himself, Omaria, and Beseri Akabwai, the current electoral commissioner, conceived the idea of establishing Soroti University in Teso. The university is now a reality, and he urges Teso students to take full advantage of this educational opportunity.
Meanwhile, Simon Peter Okello, also known as Erekedia, from Omodingo village in Akoboi Sub-County, Katakwi District, encouraged parents to provide their children with the necessary scholastic materials on time.
He made these remarks during a recent event in Aleles-Akoboi Sub-County, Katakwi District, where he paid tribute to a former agricultural commissioner.
Former Ngariam County candidate Charles Harmer Odeng Ojale also urged Katakwi learners to heed guidance and prepare themselves as future leaders.
