RUKUNGIRI: The LC III Chairperson for Nyakishenyi Sub county in Rukkungiri District, Wednesday Twinomujuni, has launched a campaign to raise over UGX 80 million to purchase an ambulance for Nyakishenyi and Nyarushanje sub-counties in Rukungiri District, two remote and hard-to-reach areas.
Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony held at Rwakitura Leisure Gardens in Murama Parish, Nyakishenyi Sub County on saturday, Twinomujuni shared the inspiration behind his initiative. The event, which served both as a fundraiser and a celebration of personal milestones, marked his daughter’s graduation, his child’s baptism, his 18th wedding anniversary, and his wife’s recent employment on the government payroll.
Twinomujuni recounted his life-threatening accident in April 2020, during which access to timely ambulance services was a challenge. He credited friends who rushed him to the hospital for saving his life, emphasizing that he might not have survived without their quick intervention.
“This experience motivated me to spearhead efforts to acquire an ambulance that can serve the people of Nyakishenyi and Nyarushanje,” he said, urging the public to contribute to the cause. By the end of the event, over UGX 14 million had been raised.

Rev. Canon Erick Beingana Bangyenzi, the North Kigezi Diocesan Secretary representing Bishop Onesmus Asiimwe, praised Twinomujuni for dedicating his thanksgiving to a community-focused cause. He encouraged Christians to trust God in all areas of their lives, including health, education, and finances.
Rukungiri District LCV Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama, who represented the chief guest, Minister for Security Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, acknowledged the dire need for ambulances in Nyakishenyi and Nyarushanje. He pointed out that government ambulances are typically stationed at Health Center IV facilities at the county level, leaving sub-county Health Center III facilities underserved.
“The government should allocate ambulances to Health Center III facilities to ensure timely medical assistance for rural communities,” Kyomukama said.
