KAMPALA: The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Anita Annet Among, has announced her intention to challenge Rebecca Kadaga for the position of National Vice Chairperson (Female) in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Among made the declaration on Wednesday during a meeting with members of the Uganda Urban Council Speakers Association, who had come to Parliament to present a petition seeking improvements in their welfare.
“I am not standing for the position of Vice Chairperson for Eastern Region. I am going to stand for National Vice Chairperson (Female). This is a position for the entire country, not just the Eastern Region,” Among stated.
Her remarks were in response to a proposal from Bonny Tashobya, Chairperson of the Uganda Urban Council Speakers Association.
Tashobya had suggested that Among contest for the Vice Chairperson (Eastern Region) position, currently held by Mike Mukula.
However, Among declined, emphasizing her aspiration for a national leadership role within the NRM.
“As speakers, our wish is to support you everywhere, and we are requesting you to consider the position of National Vice Chairperson for Eastern Region. We are here to support you,” Tashobya said.
