Two Arrested After Fatal Bar Brawl in Kabale

Police in Kabale District have arrested two suspects in connection with the death of 35-year-old Turyahebwa Wensi, a casual labourer and resident of Kibingwe Cell, Kacerere Ward, Ryakarimira Town Council.

According to police, the incident occurred on Monday night, November 3, 2025, at around 9:30 p.m., when a quarrel broke out at Natuhwera Papius’s bar in Omwiryaniro Trading Centre.

The altercation reportedly escalated into a physical fight in which Wensi was struck on the head with a stone, sustaining a deep wound that caused severe bleeding.

Moments later, a local resident, Twikirize Nicholas, who had been sleeping nearby, heard an alarm and rushed out, only to find Wensi lying unconscious in front of his house, while one of the suspects, Mugarura Kelesesio, stood nearby.

Police reports further indicate that Kelesesio also sustained a nose injury during the fight, allegedly inflicted by the deceased. Wensi was rushed to Rubaya Health Centre IV and later referred to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries en route.

The case was reported to Ryakarimira Police Station, and a team of detectives led by ASP Maate Elly, the Kigezi Region Police PRO, visited and processed the scene. Two suspects, Mugarura Kelesesio and bar owner Natuhwera Papius, were arrested to aid investigations.

A blood-stained stone believed to have been used in the assault was recovered as an exhibit, along with blood samples from the scene, which have been submitted for forensic analysis.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson confirmed that a postmortem was conducted and investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.

“We condemn such acts of violence and urge members of the public to always resolve disputes peacefully and avoid taking the law into their own hands,” ASP Maate said.
