Ugandan academic and development practitioner, Rotarian Dr. Opul Joseph, has been honored in Beijing for his groundbreaking work in poverty eradication and youth empowerment.
Dr. Opul, who is the Director of the Opul Skilling Foundation Africa (OSFA) and Quality Education Consultancy Ltd (QECL), as well as a Lecturer at Gulu University and Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Dar es Salaam, received recognition through the launch of a book titled “Our Common Goal: International Experience in Poverty Eradication.”
The award was presented by Dr. Bi Jieying, Director of the General Office at the Center for International Agricultural Research (CAAS) in China, during a workshop on Innovative Poverty Alleviation Models at the 21st Century Hotel in Beijing.
The honor highlights Dr. Opul’s ambitious vision of supporting 20 million business startups and innovations across Africa as a pathway to lifting millions out of poverty.
Speaking after the recognition, Dr. Opul described the moment as both humbling and inspiring.
“This recognition is not about me as an individual, but about the millions of young people across Africa who deserve opportunities to innovate and thrive. It gives me renewed energy to keep pushing for practical solutions to poverty through skilling, entrepreneurship, and education,” he said.
Dr. Opul’s initiatives under OSFA and QECL focus on youth skilling, entrepreneurship, and education as sustainable tools to combat poverty.
His recognition in China places him among international scholars driving global efforts to achieve shared prosperity through innovation and practical development models.
