Dan Odongo, the Executive Director of UNEB, reported an overall increase in the number of candidates. Of the total, 180,471 (49.5%) were male, while 183,198 (50.5%) were female, indicating 3,527 more female candidates than male ones for UCE 2023.

Odongo noted improvements in English Language, Religious Education, Mathematics, and Biology, while declines were observed in History, Agriculture, and Physics. However, performance in other subjects remained relatively stable.

In English Language, there was a notable decrease in the tendency to regurgitate passages, likely contributing to the marked improvement in candidate performance.
