Police in Rukungiri District have arrested a 23-year-old Kampala University student for allegedly impersonating a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) candidate during the ongoing national examinations.
The suspect, identified as Cleophas Mbamanyire, a resident of Ruhabo 2A Cell, Rutunguru Parish, Ihunga Sub-county in Ntungamo District, was reportedly found sitting a Geography paper on behalf of one Akampurira Brenda at Bugangari Secondary School on Thursday morning, November 13, 2025, at around 11:00 a.m.
According to the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the arrest followed a tip-off from the chief invigilator, Masiko Ambrose, who became suspicious of the impersonation during the examination session.
Police immediately intervened, leading to the suspect’s arrest. Statements have since been recorded from key witnesses, and several documents, including examination papers, have been recovered to aid in the ongoing investigations.
ASP Maate confirmed that inquiries into the incident are still underway and emphasized that the police, working closely with the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), will ensure that all those involved in examination malpractice are brought to justice.
