“Lead With Integrity”: Archbishop Kaziimba Charges 353 UCU Graduates at BBUC Ceremony

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Chancellor of Uganda Christian University (UCU), The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has called on graduates to champion peace, integrity, and servant leadership as they transition into careers and leadership roles.

He made the appeal while presiding over UCU’s 26th Graduation Ceremony (Part 3) held at Bishop Barham University College (BBUC) in Kabale District on Friday. A total of 353 students, 228 males (65%) and 125 females (35%), graduated with master’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and diplomas.

The event was graced by the Guest of Honour, Eng. Reuben Tumwebaze Byaruhanga, Managing Director of Uganda Clays Limited. The ceremony also honoured the late Rt. Rev. Dr. George William Tibeesigwa, former Bishop of Ankole Diocese and first Principal of BBUC, for his visionary service and contribution to the Church and academia.

Speaking ahead of Uganda’s election season, Archbishop Kaziimba urged graduates to be ambassadors of peace and reconciliation, guiding communities away from division and hatred.

Drawing from Nehemiah 2:20, he encouraged them to emulate resilience and courage as they step into the world.

“Like Nehemiah, you have built something meaningful, brick by brick. May that same spirit propel you to rebuild communities, restore hope, and lead with integrity,” he said.

Eng. Tumwebaze challenged graduates to embrace innovation in an increasingly complex world, emphasizing the importance of carbon intelligence, virtual intelligence, and artificial intelligence proficiency.

He stressed the need for integrity in workplaces, especially in remote work environments and cautioned against gender stereotypes in the job market.

Representing the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Rev. Canon Prof. John Kitayimbwa, noted that many UCU staff members are engaged in further studies.

He highlighted capacity development, research excellence, and the University Transformation Initiative, which has advanced UCU toward dustless, paperless, and environmentally friendly operations.

The Bishop of Kigezi Diocese and Chairperson of the University College Governing Council, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, encouraged graduates to uphold humility, integrity, and servant leadership.

He reminded them that great achievements often grow from humble beginnings.

BBUC Principal, Dr. Alice Tumwesigye, reaffirmed the college’s commitment to academic excellence and producing graduates who are spiritually grounded and ready to serve.
