MIU Director Dr Ariyo Champions Sports in Education, Promises Greater Support

MBARARA: Dr. Gracious Ariyo, Secretary and Director of Metropolitan International University (MIU), stressed the importance of sports in education, as advocated by the Ministry of Education and Sports.

Speaking on Saturday  during the MIU Inter-Campus Sports Tournament at Bihagwe Playground in Mbarara City North Division, Dr. Ariyo emphasized that sports not only allow students to showcase their talents but also align with the ministry’s policies. The event brought together students from MIU’s Kisoro, Mbarara, and Kampala campuses.

Dr. Ariyo pledged to allocate additional resources to support sports activities, enabling students to develop their talents and ensuring the university’s active participation in the Inter-University League and other national and international competitions. He also urged parents to consider enrolling their children at MIU, noting that the university provides quality education and equips students with essential skills for a successful life after graduation.

Mbarara City North Division Education Officer, Ogwara Zamuda, who represented the Guest of Honor, City Education Officer Ezera Atuheire, commended MIU for its vision of academic excellence and its commitment to supporting government efforts in education. She applauded the university for integrating sports into its activities, noting that sports create job opportunities, foster global connections, and promote personal growth.

In her address, Ogwara encouraged students to engage in productive activities such as sports, music, dance, drama, and reading, while avoiding harmful behaviors like excessive partying, alcohol consumption, and drug abuse. She urged students to focus on safeguarding their health and acquiring life skills that would prepare them for a successful future beyond campus.
