Kashambya FC Triumphs in Nyasa Tournament as PLU Supports Youth Talent Development in Rukiga

RUKIGA: Kashambya Football Club emerged as champions of the 2024 Nyasa Got Talent Tournament after defeating Nyasa Football Club in a thrilling match held on Sunday at Mugogo Playground, Bukinda, Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga District.

The tournament, aimed at showcasing youth talent, was organized to attract teams from all six sub-counties in Rukiga District. However, Rwamucucu Sub-County did not participate due to unspecified reasons.

Competitions were held among the five sub-counties, with Kashambya Sub-County winning the final in a penalty shootout, scoring 3-2 against Nyasa FC from Muhanga Town Council.

All participating teams received medals, footballs, jerseys, and monetary prizes, while the winning team was awarded a trophy and other prizes.

Speaking as the guest of honor, Ms. Gloria Kamusiime, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Kigezi Sub-Region Youth Representative, emphasized the importance of sports in fostering economic prosperity and talent development within communities. She commended the organizers for their efforts.

Ms. Kamusiime highlighted PLU’s commitment, under the leadership of Gen. Muhoozi Keinerugaba, to help youth recognize the benefits of sports and identify hidden talents that can uplift their lives if well nurtured.

She also noted that such tournaments provide a platform to mobilize youth, educate them on mindset change, and prepare them for vocational skills training to fight poverty and redundancy.

Rtd Capt. Dadmson Christman Kivumba, an aspiring legislator for Rukiga County, praised the tournament’s focus on talent identification and youth empowerment. He urged Rukiga District residents to support PLU’s agenda of uniting youth and adults for the country’s development.

They reflected on the club’s journey since its founding in 1999 and its role in developing sports talent.
