KASESE: On August 27, 2024, athletes from Kasese District urged their leaders to invest more in athletics. This plea came in the wake of the recent Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon, where many local runners struggled to secure top positions due to inadequate preparation.
Eva Masika, a runner from Kasese who finished 9th in the 42km category, expressed her aspirations: “I want to become an international athlete and make a living from it, but I need better training to compete at that level.”
Godfrey Sunday, a sports analyst, emphasized the need for additional resources stating “Our runners are improving, but we need more support, especially in terms of equipment and proper athletic wear.”

Francis Mugisa Kithulha, a sponsor, commended the 21 participants from Kasese Municipality for their dedication. “Don’t give up! Set your sights even higher for next year,” he encouraged.
During a meeting at Uhuru 50 Gardens, Kithulha also urged residents to continue producing goods and services that enhance their livelihoods.
“The marathon brought economic benefits to many who hosted runners. Let’s continue working together to build on this success,” he said.
To motivate local talent, the Kasese Tourism Investors Forum awarded prizes to the top six local runners.
