KAMPALA – The launch of Bishop Comboni League Gala Season 8 at Old Kampala Secondary School Playground yesterday (Sunday) witnessed a generous contribution of ten million Ugandan Shillings from Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of Information Communication Technology and National Guidance.
Dr. Baryomunsi, who also serves as the Vice Chairperson of the NRM in Western Uganda and the Kinkizi East Member of Parliament, graced the event as the guest of honor.
Expressing his commitment to supporting Bishop Comboni Old students, Minister Baryomunsi assured them of his assistance whenever contacted to ensure the smooth operations and running of the league. He went a step further by pledging to contribute iron sheets during his upcoming visit to the school.

During his address, Minister Baryomunsi encouraged the old students to strengthen their bonds by inviting more members to join the old students’ association.

Emphasizing the importance of unity, he urged them to work together as a team. He cautioned against engaging in divisive politics and instead urged the old students to embrace and promote digitalization.

The event, organized by Babu Emmanuel, the League Gala Chairperson of Bishop Comboni Old Students, aimed to raise funds for the development of the league and this year’s season. Dr. Spero Byokunda, the Chairman of the Old Students of Comboni, also contributed one million Ugandan Shillings towards the cause.
In a friendly match that followed, Minister Baryomunsi showcased his soccer skills as he captained a team that secured a 3-1 victory against the Comboni League Select, with goals from Wence and Boyzone JB also gracing the score sheet, and Hamis scoring the lone goal for the opposing team.
The highlight of the day was the crowning of Karere FC, champions of the previous year’s edition (Season 7), who emerged victorious in the Season 8 opener.
They defeated Pioneers FC (Class of 2005-2010) on penalties after a 1-1 draw at full time, securing their status as the champions for this year’s Bishop Comboni League Gala Season.
