NEWS – The Commander of ADF rebels responsible for the tragic deaths of two foreign tourists and a Ugandan driver in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kasese District, Njovu, has been apprehended.

The victims, a South African woman and a British man on their honeymoon, lost their lives when ADF rebels set fire to their tour vehicle along a road by Queen Elizabeth National Park, claiming the life of their local guide as well in October 2023.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni issued a statement confirming Njovu’s arrest, noting that he was captured while injured. The President also disclosed that three other terrorists from the group of ten, responsible for killing the Lhubiriha children, burning a truck of onions, and attempting to attack parked trucks on the Congo-Kasindi side, have been eliminated.

“I inform you that Njovu, one of the assailants responsible for the deaths of the tourists and their Ugandan driver, has been arrested while injured. Three other terrorists from the same group have been killed, perpetrators of the heinous acts including the murder of Lhubiriha children and other incidents,” stated President Museveni.

He went on to reveal that the remaining seven members of the group are still at large but assured the public, “We shall get them.”

President Museveni highlighted the UPDF marine boat’s successful attack on the Njovu group on Lake Edward. However, he expressed some concerns about the handling of the situation, stating, “They did not fully capitalize on their success after attacking the terrorists’ boat. Otherwise, all the terrorists would have been captured.”

He attributed the oversight to the delay in inspecting the crippled boat, which allowed the seven fugitives to escape, emphasizing that it was their first encounter with combat on water and that they are refining their tactics.

Despite the gaps in the marines’ performance, President Museveni commended the UPDF marines and the CMI for their efforts, expressing confidence in the ongoing pursuit of the remaining fugitives.
