A Field Force Unit (FFU) officer, Rogers Mumbere, attached to the Fire and Rescue Services Department at Bwera Divisional Police Headquarters, tragically lost his life on Sunday when a mature eucalyptus tree fell on his accommodation unit during heavy afternoon rains.
The incident occurred at the Customs border in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Town Council, shortly after Mumbere had parked a Fire and Rescue vehicle and returned to his residence.
Moments later, the tree crashed onto his police Uniport, killing him instantly.
The body of the deceased, a native of Nyakaina Village in Karambi Sub-county, was taken to Bwera General Hospital for postmortem and further management.
