The Kololo Independence Grounds are today at the heart of Uganda’s political activity as thousands of delegates gather for the highly anticipated NRM National Delegates Conference. The landmark event will conclude elections for the ruling party’s governing organs and set the stage for the next political season.

With accreditation completed and the grounds filled to capacity, anticipation is high for the day’s program. Delegates will not only participate in critical elections but also hear from NRM National Chairman, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is expected to officially open the conference.

In his earlier addresses, Museveni signaled that he would outline Uganda’s economic and political trajectory. Today, he is expected to deliver a major policy speech highlighting the country’s economic growth, from a $3.9 billion economy in 1986 to $66 billion today and chart the roadmap toward a projected $500 billion high middle-income economy.

The NRM Chairman has emphasized governance priorities such as combating corruption at the local government level, improving service delivery, and ensuring that roads, schools, hospitals, and water projects benefit citizens effectively.

In a recent address to Special Interest Group delegates, he warned against bribery in recruitment, theft of medicines, and illegal charges in government schools. Delegates now expect him to reinforce these themes, stressing accountability as a means of “protecting the gains.”

Another key highlight of the conference is the conclusion of elections for the leadership of the party’s Special Organs, including the Women’s League, Youth League, and Entrepreneurs League. The most closely watched contest is the race for First National Vice Chairperson (Female) between Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga and Rt. Hon. Anita Among, both commanding strong support bases.

Delegates will also witness the announcement of newly elected party structures, tasked with strengthening grassroots mobilization, building cohesion, and ensuring delivery on NRM’s electoral promises over the next five years.

NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong will present a comprehensive report, detailing the party’s progress, challenges, and vision ahead. Todwong has consistently urged members to prioritize the party’s mission above personal ambitions.

This year’s conference, held under the slogan “Protecting the Gains: As We Make a Leap into High Middle-Income Status,” reflects pride in Uganda’s achievements in peace, security, and economic progress, while underscoring the need to safeguard these gains as the country moves forward.

According to the NRM Director for Communication and Public Relations, the massive turnout of delegates from across the country is a strong testament to the party’s grassroots support and the confidence members have in its electoral program.
