Minister Musasizi’s Convoy Stoned in Rubanda, Police Hunt Suspects

Police in Rubanda District are hunting for suspects who allegedly stoned and damaged a vehicle belonging to the Minister of Finance (General Duties), Henry Musasizi.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening as the minister was leaving a campaign rally at Hakashanje Playground in Nyakahanga Cell, Bushura Parish, Hamuhambo Town Council.

Minister Musasizi, who is seeking re-election as the Rubanda East County Member of Parliament, had just concluded his campaign event when a group of individuals from the crowd reportedly began throwing stones at his convoy. Police say the attack, which happened around 6:40 PM, shattered the windows of the minister’s vehicle.

According to law enforcement, tensions had been simmering throughout the day after some people allegedly tore down Musasizi’s campaign posters earlier at the same venue.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that a case of malicious damage has been registered and investigations are underway. He noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend at least nine suspects identified as having participated in the act.

Maate urged the public to refrain from acts of violence and lawlessness during the political season, emphasizing that all citizens must be allowed to exercise their civic rights peacefully. He warned that those who engage in such criminal behavior will face the full force of the law.

Meanwhile, Minister Musasizi has vowed to take firm action against individuals allegedly planning to incite violence in Rubanda District ahead of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries scheduled for July 17, 2025.

Minister Musasizi also urged residents to focus on community development rather than conflict.

The Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson, Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba, echoed Minister Musasizi’s message, calling for a peaceful electoral process.
