KISORO: The Electoral Commission, Uganda Police, and Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) have denied the authenticity of a video circulating on social media that allegedly shows violence at an unknown polling station, where a motorcycle is reportedly impounded with pre-marked ballots by residents.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, stated that the video is fake, noting that its origin and intent are unknown. He explained that the video began circulating at 6:00 a.m., before the elections had even started, as per the legal schedule.

Maate also pointed out that the background and language in the video do not match those of Kisoro, confirming that it was recorded in Hoima District during a by-election in 2018.

Maj. Kiconco Tabaro, the UPDF 2nd Infantry Division Public Information Officer, also refuted the video, describing it as an attempt at propaganda aimed at intimidating Kisoro voters, inciting anger, and provoking violence during the voting process.

Tabaro emphasized that no UPDF personnel in red tops are deployed in the area, adding that Uganda Police Force officers are adequately positioned at all polling stations and performing well.

Julius Mucunguzi, the Electoral Commission spokesperson, dismissed the video as fake and misleading, intended to cause confusion and distraction.

He urged the public to ignore it and mentioned that the Commission has reported the matter to security agencies to investigate its origin and creators for appropriate legal action.
