KABALE: Kabale District Local Government has commissioned 17 women’s groups, which received 127 million Uganda shillings from the Ministry of Gender Labor through the Uganda Women Entrepreneurial Program – UWEP.

During the commissioning held at the District council hall on Friday, Kabale deputy Resident District Commissioner, Ronald Bakak, cautioned the beneficiaries against misusing the funds for purposes other than those outlined in the program’s guidelines. He emphasized that the funds, although provided by the government, are not a donation but a grant that must be repaid within three years.

Bakak warned of legal consequences for any diversion of funds and urged strict adherence to the project guidelines submitted to the ministry.

Christopher Namara, the Kabale District Community Development officer, disclosed that the District has been benefiting from UWEP since the 2016/2017 Financial Year, having disbursed a total of 919 million shillings. Namara expressed concern over beneficiaries who habitually default on repayment, alleging collusion with district technical staff.
