The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has arrested a primary school teacher in Sironko District over allegations that he impersonated another person and used the individual’s academic documents to secure employment for more than three decades.
The arrest follows investigations into suspected identity fraud involving the alleged use of another person’s identity and Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) certificate for employment purposes.
According to the allegations under investigation, the teacher is suspected of presenting academic documents that belonged to another individual, raising questions about how he allegedly obtained and used the documents over an extended period.
The case highlights concerns about the verification of academic qualifications and personal identities in public service recruitment, particularly in the education sector, where teachers are expected to meet established professional and academic requirements.

The Inspectorate of Government is mandated to investigate corruption, abuse of authority and other forms of misconduct in public institutions. Its investigations can include suspected fraud involving public employment and the misuse of official procedures. The arrest is part of efforts to investigate alleged irregularities in the recruitment and employment of public servants.
If the allegations are substantiated, the case could raise questions about the effectiveness of the systems used to verify teachers’ academic credentials during recruitment and throughout their careers.
However, further details regarding the teacher’s identity, the school where he was employed, the individual whose documents were allegedly used and the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the suspected impersonation have not been provided.
