KABALE: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Chairman for Kabale District, who also serves as the Minister of State for Trade, Industry, and Co-operatives, David Bahati, has warned Party District Registrars against unlawful registration.

Minister Bahati delivered his message during the launch event for the display and update of the NRM Register in Kabale District, held at the National Teachers College in Kabale Municipality today. The registration update process is scheduled to commence from Wednesday, March 13th, to Sunday, March 17th, 2024.

Highlighting the legal consequences, Minister Bahati emphasized that anyone found engaging in illegal registration could face up to seven years of imprisonment. He cautioned NRM registrars at the village and Sub County levels against manipulating the register, particularly by including underage individuals and non-Ugandans.

Emphasizing the importance of a credible register in upholding democracy, Bahati urged registrars to conduct the registration exercise with utmost integrity.

Looking ahead to the significance of the upcoming 2026 elections, Minister Bahati underscored the party’s readiness for the milestone year. He disclosed that despite registering 10 million voters in the previous 2021 election, President Museveni secured victory with only 5 million votes, prompting inquiry into the whereabouts of the remaining registered voters. He urged all Ugandans to mobilize and ensure massive voter turnout for the impending historic vote.
