KABALE: The Former Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament, Andrew Aja Baryayanga, has returned to the Ruling National Resistance Movement Party (NRM) after a hiatus of nearly fourteen years from active participation in party affairs.

Confirming his re-entry into the party, Baryayanga updated his details in the National Resistance Movement-NRM party register yesterday. His decision to return coincided with an event where over 200 members of the NRM updated their particulars at Kilwa A cell in Kijuguta ward, Northern Division, precisely at midday, as part of the ongoing National Resistance Movement-party membership register update exercise.

Explaining his absence from NRM party elections, Baryayanga revealed that he opted to run as an independent candidate in the 2011 and 2016 general elections after reported cases of electoral malpractices during the 2010 party elections in Kabale Municipality, which led to the declaration of former State Minister for Tourism, Serapio Rukundo, as the winner.

He said that after consulting the electorate, he is now convinced that he will win the party elections and subsequently the general election under the NRM party. He said that provision of services to people like water, education and health care are the key priorities.

Aja’s return comes after an electoral setback in the 2021 general elections, where he lost to the Forum for Democratic Change candidate, Dr. Nicholas Thedius Kamara, who now serves as the Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament.
