KIRUHURA: Police in Kiruhura district has registered a fatal road accident today around 07:30 AM, claiming two lives and injuring two others at Akyapa along the Mbarara-Lyantonde road.
The accident involved two vehicles: a silver Toyota Spacio with registration number UBC 554D, driven by an unidentified individual, and a white Tata lorry with registration number UBH 961W, driven by Gessa Abaala Abdala, a 41-year-old male resident of Gaba Bukunja, Buikwe District.
According to reports, the driver of the Toyota Spacio, heading from Mbarara to Kampala, lost control of the vehicle due to overspeeding and drifted from his lane, colliding with the Tata lorry coming from the opposite direction. This collision resulted in the death of two occupants of the Toyota and injury to two others, whose identities remain unknown.
The injured victims were rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition by good Samaritans, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Kasambya mortuary in Lyantonde District for postmortem examination.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police spokesperson, stated that efforts to identify the victims are ongoing. The involved vehicles have been towed and parked at Sanga Police Station, awaiting inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
