RUKUNGIRI: Authorities at Rwakabengo Health Centre III, in the southern division of Rukungiri Municipality, are stuck with an unidentified body of a young child, approximately three years old who was retrieved floating in the Kanyantende River in Nyakishenyi Sub County.

Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi region police, has reported that an investigation into the suspected murder has been initiated. The incident has been formally registered at the Rubabo police station under reference number SD Ref: 06/27/03/2024. Maate says that the crime scene has been thoroughly examined and documented by crime scene investigators, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department, homicide detectives, and officers from Rubabo police. Statements pertinent to the case have also been recorded.
Maate urges anyone who may be missing a child matching the description to visit the mortuary for identification purposes such that arrangements can be made for the child’s proper burial.
