Summary:
- With tensions simmering and legal proceedings underway, the fate of the contested land in Kisoro District hangs in the balance, as stakeholders await further guidance from authorities.
KISORO: The LC5 Chairman for Kisoro District, Abel Bizimana has threatened to mobilize a public protest against increasing land grabbers in the district.
Bizimana has expressed his dismay that Kisoro district has kept being vulnerable to its minorities and voiceless because of the renowned land grabbers riding over gullible Bafumbira, internal trickery and betrayal of Uganda.
In particular, Bizimana accused the NRM Vice Chairperson who doubles as the Central division Chairperson Ramathan Ndikuyeze of spearheading land grabbing efforts. These allegations surfaced amidst a legal dispute yesterday when His worship Henry Twinomuhwezi, an Assistant Registrar at the Kabale High Court, concerning contested land along the Kisoro-Bunagana Road in Kisoro Municipality. Abel Agaba, the plaintiff, alleged trespassing and the unauthorized erection of structures on the disputed land by Nambajimana.
According to the defendant, Ndikuyeze, the Uganda Land Commission allocated the contested land to him in May 2017. However, Bizimana condemned Ndikuyeze’s involvement in land grabbing, emphasizing the duty of leaders to safeguard district land rather than exploiting it for personal gain.
Despite Bizimana’s initial plans to stage a peaceful demonstration against land grabbers, his efforts were thwarted by security officials. Nonetheless, he expressed grave concern over the potential loss of essential district assets to these unscrupulous individuals, including the district headquarters, health facilities, and schools.
Bizimana asserted that Kisoro District is not for sale and warned land grabbers, vowing not to tolerate their actions within the district’s borders. He emphasized the historical significance of the land under dispute, stating that decades of ownership cannot be relinquished arbitrarily.
