RUKUNGIRI: A 51 year old Boda Boda rider has lost control, veered off the road, hit the head on road furniture and died on the spot in Rukungiri District.
The deceased identified as Bernard Tibiine Johnson is a resident of Kyebumbire Ruhinda in Burombe sub-county in Rukungiri District. He was riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number UEZ 084G.
According to a statement from the police, the accident occurred around 8:00 PM yesterday at Mironzi Cell, Kikongi Parish, in Bwambara sub-county along the Rukungiri Kihihi road. Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, reported that Johnson lost control of his motorcycle, colliding with road construction materials, leading to fatal head injuries.
Tragically, Johnson was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, as stated by Maate.
Maate says that the scene was promptly attended to, documented, and the body transported to Rwakabengo Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem examination.
