KABALE: The Kabale Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Nyakahuma has urged students of Kabale University to uphold African cultural values rather than promoting or engaging in acts of homosexuality.
Speaking as the chief guest at the Kabale University Cultural Gala 2024 in Kabale District yesterday, Nyakahuma emphasized the importance of conserving and protecting African traditions.
He cautioned students about the dangers associated with homosexuality and criticized the National Unity Platform (NUP) party president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, for allegedly endorsing LGBTQ+ ideology among Ugandan youth. Nyakahuma reminded the audience of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, which was introduced in Uganda’s Parliament in 2009 and later passed in 2013, prohibiting same-sex relations.

Expressing concern over a tweet from a European Union official, David Vidal Sans, praising Bobi Wine for his advocacy of human and LGBTQ rights, Nyakahuma urged students and the wider African community to defend Uganda’s sovereignty and reject foreign influences. He emphasized the importance of celebrating cultural heritage as a means of preserving traditional values in the face of external ideologies.
