KABALE: Uganda People’s Congress – UPC President James Jimmy Akena has expressed Concern about the State of Kigezi College Butobere.
The Kabale Municipality based Secondary School is now a shadow of its former self, despite being known for producing prominent Ugandans in Politics, business, security, judiciary, Medicine among others.
On top of severely dwindled academic performance , Enrollment has gone down from 1500 in the early 2000, to less than 300 in 2024. The now empty School dormitories have developed cracks, while the sewerage systems in the self contained dormitories broke down years ago.
“This School used to be the dream of every boy child in Uganda. Kigezi College was the face of education in Kigezi Sub-Region during my father’s time as President of Uganda. KCB produced a number of people who shaped Uganda into what it is today, but come on tell me people of Kabale. How do you feel watching Kigezi College in it’s state today ?” Akena asked.
He was Saturday speaking at the ceremony to officially open UPC offices for Kigezi Sub-Region, in Kabale Municipality.
Akena who is also the Lira East Mp said it was not only Kigezi College Butobere that is limping, but also a number of other traditional schools.
“When you look around, you realize that most of these Schools are not any different from Kigezi College,” he said
Akena said that the decline of Schools like Kigezi College Butobere was caused by broken education management systems, and the UPC would ensure that the systems are revived if elected into power, come 2026.
