RUBANDA: Police in Rubanda District are investigating the deaths of three individuals under unclear circumstances in Nshanjare Town Council.
The deceased have been identified as Silver Agaba (65) and Bright Ainembabazi (27), both residents of Butabonana Cell, Mengo Ward, Nshanjare Town Council, and Edward Rwamahe, also known as Militant (32), a resident of Mashaho Cell, Mengo Ward, Nshanjare Town Council.
According to a police statement, Agaba Silver left his home on Sunday night at around 10:00 PM to go to Mengo Trading Center and never returned. His wife, Lydia Tindibakira, waited for him in vain. Concerned, she informed their son, Atuheire Marvin, and the two searched alongside the road. They found Agaba lying in a pool of blood near Mengo Trading Center with multiple head wounds.
At the scene, a red jumper suspected to belong to Ainembabazi Bright was found. This discovery prompted Atuheire Marvin to report the incident at Nshanjare Police Station, where a case of murder was registered. Rubanda Central Police Station was also notified.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. He stated that a homicide team led by D/SP Arinaiwe Frank responded to the crime scene. However, before their arrival, locals from the villages of Butabonana Cell, Mengo Cell, and Mashaho had lynched the two suspects, Ainembabazi Bright and his friend Edward Rwamahe, alias Militant.
Maate condemned the community’s actions, emphasizing that such lawlessness is unacceptable. He urged the public to involve local leaders and the police in handling such matters lawfully.
He added that inquiries are ongoing and anyone found to have participated in the lynching will be arrested and charged accordingly.
