KABALE: The Government has initiated training for health workers in Kabale district on the use of a newly introduced system known as Electronic Medical Records (EMR), aimed at transforming data management and enhancing healthcare delivery through efficient data entry and accessibility.
This initiative follows the conclusion of a two-day capacity-building workshop held today at the Kabale University Innovation Hub, where clinicians, administrators, and data managers from various health facilities received training. The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Information, Communications Technology, and National Guidance. Ritah Kisembo, an IT officer from the Ministry, explained that the training focused on equipping health workers with the necessary computer skills to effectively use the new system.
Kisembo highlighted that the EMR system will enable health workers to access faster and more accurate patient information, maintain comprehensive medical histories, reduce errors compared to paper records, alleviate the need for patients to carry physical documents, and improve diagnosis and treatment processes. She added that the government aims to digitize its services to enhance efficiency and accessibility, ultimately improving service delivery. The Ministry plans to extend this training to health workers in other districts.
