KABALE: At least two people have been confirmed dead following an accident involving an unknown motor vehicle and a motorcycle, registration number UFM 305A, a red Bajaj Boxer, along the Kabale-Katuna road in Kabale District.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Byaruhanga Merekezedeki, 25, a resident of Kibuzigye village in Rubanda District, and Natwera Osbert, 24, a resident of Karengyere village, also in Rubanda District.
Maate also identified the injured victim as Niwamanya Methodius, 24, a student at Kabale University and a resident of Kirigime, Kabale Municipality. He was rushed to Home Care Clinic in Kitumba for medical attention.
The accident occurred on Thursday at around 8:00 p.m. in Kitumba, along the Kabale-Katuna road. According to Maate, both the motor vehicle and the motorcycle were traveling from Kabale town towards Katuna when the speeding motor vehicle lost control, hitting the motorcycle, which was carrying two passengers.
Maate attributed the accident to careless driving by the driver of the motor vehicle.
The scene was visited by ASP Mucunguzi Wilson, assisted by PC Kaugu and a police patrol team. A sketch plan was drawn, and the bodies were taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
The motorcycle, registration number UFM 305A, was towed and is currently parked at Kabale Central Police Station yard pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
