KAMPALA: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has dismissed several key officials of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in the public interest, following significant evidence of criminal negligence related to the Kiteezi Landfill disaster, as outlined in a report by the Inspectorate of Government (IGG).
The officials relieved of their duties include Dorothy Kisaka, the Executive Director, Engineer Luyimbazi, the Deputy Executive Director, and Dr. Okello, the Director of Public Health.
Exercising his constitutional authority under Article 172 (1) (a) of the 1995 Constitution, President Museveni acted to hold these officials accountable for their roles in the oversight and negligence uncovered by the IGG’s report.
A statement from the Presidential Press Unit highlighted that the IGG’s findings clearly demonstrated the gravity of the mismanagement surrounding the Kiteezi Landfill. As a result, the President has directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and other relevant agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, with a particular focus on criminal negligence.
In the interim, President Museveni has instructed the Public Service Commission to advertise the vacant positions of Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, and Director of Public Health, with the goal of appointing new officials within three months.
To ensure uninterrupted operations at KCCA, the President has also tasked the Minister for Kampala with advising on interim appointments for these key positions.
President Museveni reaffirmed his commitment to accountability and upholding the highest standards of governance for the benefit of all citizens.
