KISORO: The former Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament, Rose Kabagyenyi, has picked up nomination forms from the NRM Secretariat to replace the late State Minister for Defence, Sarah Mateke.
Kabagyenyi confirmed this development to our reporter, stating that she collected the nomination forms on Tuesday to run on the NRM ticket. She had previously lost the 2021 general elections to the late Sarah Mateke but was subsequently appointed Senior Presidential Advisor in charge of Agriculture by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in 2022.

In response to a resolution made by the Kisoro District Council endorsing Ruth Nyiraneza Mateke as the sole candidate to replace the late Sarah Mateke, Kabagyenyi expressed her disagreement.
She argued that the decision was made by mourners from different parts of the country and not by the Kisoro District Council.
Kabagyenyi stated that the resolution was unconstitutional and inappropriate, emphasizing the need to respect the cultural values of the Bafumbira community.
Kabagyenyi also criticized the District Council for what she described as “dancing on the grave” of the late Sarah Mateke. She urged the council to allow the electorate to choose their leader, just as they had chosen the late Mateke.
Kabagyenyi called for an apology from the Kisoro District on behalf of the Bafumbira and the country for politicizing the special council session meant to honor the late minister.
