KISORO: The Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has reported that excessive alcohol consumption has heavily impacted the NRM primaries for the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament by-election.
While giving an overview of the election at the Rukiiko Hall in Kisoro District on Friday, Dr. Odoi described the level of intoxication among voters as “deplorable,” noting that some individuals were so intoxicated they fell asleep on candidates’ posters.
He further criticized the involvement of students and religious leaders in the electoral process. One incident involved a Senior Six student from Kisoro Progressive Secondary School, Nicholas Ninzeyimana, aged 21, who was arrested at Saaza Playground polling station after attempting to forcefully enter.
However, Dr. Odoi praised voters for maintaining peace throughout the election process.
