KISORO: National Resistance Movement (NRM) officials from the party secretariat, members of the Central Executive Committee, and legislators in Kisoro District have urged local NRM leaders to rally behind the party’s flag bearer, Rose Kabagyeni, and actively seek community support for her ahead of Thursday’s vote.

After extensive campaign efforts that included large rallies, NRM officials and Kabagyeni convened town hall meetings with party leaders across the district’s five counties on Sunday afternoon to consolidate their support.

“We urge you to vote for Kabagyeni and ensure that votes are well protected at all polling stations,” said Jacqueline Kyatuhaire, the NRM Deputy National Treasurer and head of the campaign, during an engagement in Bufumbira South.

While party officials led hall meetings, Kabagyeni toured Kyanika Town Council, Chahi, and Nyakinama sub-counties, conducting last-minute rallies focused on service delivery, strengthening the NRM’s majority support, and promoting empowerment projects to enhance livelihoods.

“We cannot afford to split our votes in this election and weaken our party. I urge you to vote NRM, a party with pro-people policies,” Kabagyeni told her supporters.

She also invited residents to gather on Tuesday, the 12th, when President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the NRM Chairman, will visit the district to rally support for her at Ssaza Grounds.

The by-election, set for November 14, 2024, is expected to be competitive, with candidates from various parties, including Salim Sultana (NUP), Aisha Cyimpaye (PPP), Juliet Musanase (FDC), and Mable Ingabire (UPC), vying for the seat.

This by-election follows the death of the former Kisoro Woman MP and State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, in early September.
