KISORO: The National Unity Platform (NUP) Party President, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has stated that Kisoro District has missed out on significant development due to its consistent support for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party.

The NRM has held a dominant position in Kisoro District since President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni assumed power in 1986. The party currently holds the majority of parliamentary seats, a position it has maintained since 1996.

While campaigning for the NUP candidate in the Kisoro Woman Member of Parliament by-election, Salim Sultana, at Mayor’s Gardens in Kisoro Municipality, Kyagulanyi told supporters that the district’s lack of development is due to the habit of voting for the NRM “Ijana kwi ijana” (100%). He pointed out that despite Kisoro’s rich tourism potential, the district is lagging in development.

Kyagulanyi remarked that Kisoro could be “like Switzerland” if he were president, and he urged residents to support NUP candidates, from the grassroots to the national level, as a statement for change.

The by-election, scheduled for November 14, 2024, is expected to be highly competitive. Candidates from various parties, including Salim Sultana (NUP), Aisha Cyimpaye (PPP), Juliet Musanase (FDC), and Mable Ingabire (UPC), are vying for the seat.
