RUKUNGIRI: A 29-year-old welder has died after being electrocuted while on duty in Rukungiri District.
The deceased, identified as Isaac Akampurira, was a resident of Nyarushanje Sub-county in Rukungiri District but had been renting in Rwabuterera Cell, Kagashe Ward, Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.
The tragic incident occurred while Akampurira was welding balcony shades on a building under construction along Republic Road in Rukungiri Town. He had been employed at Kahonaho Welding Workshop for over 12 years, and the workshop had been contracted to work on the Crenios Building, popularly known as Omufumu.
Eyewitnesses suggested that a fault in the wiring of the welding machine Akampurira was using might have caused the electrocution. He was rushed to Quality Clinic in critical condition and later referred to Nyakibale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Speaking to our reporter, Emmanuel Magara, a relative and local businessman in Rukungiri Municipality, described Akampurira as a dedicated worker at Kahonaho Welding Workshop, located opposite Total Petrol Station in Rwabanyambo.
