RUKUNGIRI: The Bible Society of Uganda has begun translating a Study Bible into Runyankore-Rukiga Language according to Wycliffe Bariisa, the administrator of the Bible Society of Uganda, ajoke Branch.
Bariisa confirmed this development during a prayer and Bible breakfast held on Friday at New Palm Hotel in Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality. Bariisa highlighted that once completed, this will be the first-ever Study Bible translated into a Ugandan local language and only the second in an African language. He estimated that the translation process will take approximately five years.
He revealed that translating a single Bible verse costs UGX 35,000, and with the Bible containing over 30,000 verses 31,102 in the Anglican version and over 35,000 in the Catholic version the total cost of translation exceeds one billion Ugandan shillings.
Bariisa appealed to Bible readers and well-wishers to support the mission by joining the Bible Society of Uganda and contributing to this resource-intensive undertaking.
