KAMPALA: The Family Justice Settlement Fortnight kicked off on Monday at the Family Division of the High Court, located on Plot 5, Lourdel Road, Nakasero in Kampala.
The initiative, which runs from December 9 to 23, aims to resolve at least 220 cases through mediation.
“We have causelisted 220 cases, and we are receiving more requests to join the Settlement Fortnight,” said Her Worship Juliet Komugisa, an Assistant Registrar at the Court.
Highlighting the benefits of the program, Her Worship Komugisa noted, “This initiative reduces the costs of litigation and focuses on resolving various family-related disputes, including divorce cases and matters involving estates of deceased persons.”
She emphasized that the program promotes reconciliation and the preservation of family relationships while addressing the growing backlog of cases in the Family Division.
“By prioritizing mediation as a faster, less confrontational method of dispute resolution, the Court aims to improve case management efficiency and foster amicable outcomes for the parties involved,” she explained.
She said “Eleven court-accredited mediators are participating in the sessions, playing a critical role in ensuring the program’s success. Their expertise and impartiality, she said, are key to guiding families toward mutually beneficial resolutions”.
“This effort highlights the Judiciary’s commitment to promoting access to justice, reducing case backlog, and maintaining family unity. It demonstrates our dedication to delivering fair and effective solutions for all,” Komugisa stated.
