KISORO: The Kirundo Sub-county LC3 Chairperson in Kisoro District, Geofrey Nvuyekure, finds himself in a dire predicament after three of his four executive members abandoned their posts to pursue more lucrative private opportunities outside the district.
This exodus has left a leadership vacuum, threatening the delivery of essential services in the area. The departed members, who were also councilors representing various parishes, include: Nduhimbaze Alfred, the former Vice Chairperson of Kirundo Sub-county and LC3 Councilor for Rutaka Parish, Grace Ragaba, the former Secretary for Production and LC3 Youth Councilor for Kirundo Sub-county and Agnes Nyiramahooro, the former representative of the women’s league and LC3 Councilor for Kasharara Parish.
Nvuyekure now faces the herculean task of managing the sub-county singlehandedly.
“I am operating in a ‘solely state,’ managing the implementation of policies, administration, resource allocation, and coordination of various departments alone,” he lamented. The absence of a functioning executive has paralyzed many administrative operations, leaving residents without critical services.
The challenges in Kirundo Sub-county are further exacerbated by a shortage of technical staff, including parish chiefs, a typist, office attendants, and a health assistant. Nvuyekure expressed his frustrations, stating, “We are surviving by God’s grace. The government has abandoned us. We lack basic staffing and even a police post to ensure security.”
