KAMPALA: Police in Kampala are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a 12-year-old boy, Babalanda Edrine, who was injured by the driver of a black Toyota Harrier (UBQ 699B) on December 31, 2024.
SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, said the incident occurred around 9:25 p.m. when the boy was a passenger in a taxi driven by Nsubuga Robert.
According to Nsubuga, the driver of the Toyota Harrier fired at the taxi, claiming he was targeting thieves who had attempted to steal from him while he was driving.
However, a stray bullet struck the boy, who was seated in the back seat.
“The shooter fled the scene after realizing he had injured someone,” Onyango said.
He added that the victim was rushed to a nearby clinic by his father, Babalanda Moses, but was later referred to Mulago Hospital for further treatment.
Police have since arrested the driver of the Toyota Harrier, identified as Kitaka Mohammed.
A case of attempted murder has been filed against Kitaka.
“Police are continuing to investigate the incident,” Onyango noted.
