KAMPALA: The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, has disclosed that President Museveni instructed that the forensic audit report on the Shs60 billion money heist at the Bank of Uganda be handed over to the Police’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further handling, following the incriminating evidence uncovered by the Auditor General.

“The Auditor General has done an excellent job; they have conducted a thorough forensic investigation and provided me with the report. I have been in consultation with the President regarding this matter, and given the criminal nature of the findings, we have decided to direct that the report be forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Department for further management. The CID will keep us informed of the actions taken,” Speaker Among stated.

“The rules mandate that you, as Chairperson of the Classified Committees, oversee any matters of a criminal or security nature. Although I am not privy to the report laid regarding the Bank of Uganda, I would have expected that the report be handled by the Classified Committee, which you chair, before being referred for further management,” Ekanya remarked.

“I believed that this report, being from the Auditor General, should have been passed to the appropriate committee of this House. That committee would then review it and draft a report for debate in the House, where we would decide whether to forward the Auditor General’s findings to the relevant investigative authorities,” Niwagaba argued.
