Summary:

  • The Omodo-Akoboi cattle market, opened on January 22, 2025, is expected to boost revenue collection in the district. Regular revenue collection is set to commence on January 27, 2025, under the supervision of Akoboi sub-county authorities.

KATAKWI: The business community in Katakwi district has been urged to adhere to tax regulations to foster local development. The call was made by the district Chief Finance Officer (CFO), Moses Oonyu, during the commissioning of the newly opened Omodo-Akoboi cattle market on Wednesday.

The appeal followed requests by Paul Imalingat, LC of Omodo village, and Martine Okanya, Chairperson of the Katakwi District Cattle Traders, to extend the one-month grace period granted to businesses to familiarize themselves with the market.

However, Oonyu stressed that reluctance to pay taxes hinders development. He highlighted that locally collected revenue significantly contributes to progress, noting that 65% of the revenue generated in sub-counties remains at the sub-county level, with the rest supporting district and central government initiatives. He reminded the business community of their tax obligations and announced plans to enforce compliance.
