The market, which hosts over 100 vendors, is littered with charcoal waste and plastic bags and has become a dumping ground, making the environment unhygienic and driving customers away.
Ms. Alanyo Rose Daudi, a vendor who has been working at the market since childhood and is now in her 50s, expressed frustration that no political leader has taken the initiative to improve sanitation at the market.
She added that during election campaigns, some politicians pledged to upgrade the market, construct toilets, and improve sanitation and hygiene. However, none of these promises have been fulfilled.

Ms. Abwo Joyce, the market chairperson, highlighted that poor sanitation exposes vendors to diseases such as dysentery and cholera. She mentioned that she has raised the issue with Padibe Town Council authorities, but no action has been taken.
She also noted that the market lacks a proper pit latrine for vendors, putting their health at risk.
The vendors insist that market authorities must improve sanitation, as they pay daily dues to the management and deserve better services.
