BUSHENYI: Schools have been urged to ensure that music, dance, and drama (MDD) taught in classrooms align with moral and cultural values to protect the young minds of learners from negative influences.
This call was made by Asiimire Mackline, the Secretary for Sports and Culture at the National Youth Council (NYC), while presiding over a thanksgiving ceremony at Parental Care Primary School in Bushenyi.
The event celebrated the school’s outstanding performance in the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
“As educators, you must ensure that our students are taught values that align with our cultural and moral standards. Immoral MDD can corrupt young minds and lead them astray,” she emphasized.

Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality registered 1,561 candidates from 37 primary schools for the PLE. Parental Care Primary School made a significant contribution to the municipality’s success, with 76 students scoring Division One.
Overall, 814 out of the 1,561 candidates in the municipality achieved Division One results.
Despite the concerns about MDD, Asiimire also highlighted its benefits when taught in a morally upright manner.
“Music, dance, and drama can foster creativity, self-expression, teamwork, and confidence among students when guided by proper values,” she noted.

Fred Mugisha, the Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipal Inspector of Schools, urged institutions to motivate teachers to drive academic excellence.
“Teachers are the backbone of our education system. When they are motivated, they can inspire and guide students to excel,” he stated.
He also emphasized the importance of laying a strong academic foundation right from nursery school.

“Every class should be treated as a candidate class. Teachers should strive to impart knowledge, skills, and values in their students from the early stages,” he added.
Nshemerirwe Elvaidah, the Director of Parental Care Primary School, attributed the school’s impressive performance to faith and discipline.
“We prioritize prayer and instill Godly values in our students. This has been the secret to our success, and we will continue to uphold these values,” she said.

The celebration was marked by vibrant music, dance, and drama performances by students, showcasing their talents and creativity.
The school’s administration and staff were commended for their dedication and commitment to excellence, which continues to set a high standard for academic achievement in the region.
