The magistrate also set a non-cash bond of Shs 5 million for each of his two sureties: Kapson Turyomugabe (25), a mechanic from Central East Cell, Central Division, Kabale Municipality, and Bonaventure Ngabirano (48), a teacher at Kanyankwanzi Primary School in Kitumba Sub-County, Kabale District.

Through his lawyer, Abraham Twesigye of Elgon Advocates, Ngabirano assured the court that he and his sureties would comply with all bail conditions. However, the prosecution, led by Kabale Senior Resident State Attorney Julie Nanjunju, objected to the bail, arguing that the accused could interfere with ongoing investigations.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Byamugisha stated that the prosecution had not demonstrated how Ngabirano would interfere with the investigations and, therefore, granted him bail. The case was adjourned to April 22, 2025, for further mention.

Twesigye welcomed the ruling and praised the court for upholding the legal principles governing bail.

According to Natasha, Ngabirano and others still at large allegedly obtained fraudulent garnishee orders from His Worship Tumwebaze Kenneth, the Deputy Registrar of the High Court in Kabale. These court orders instructed DFCU Bank to release Shs 689,750,300 from the account of Karekezi Stephen under the false pretense of settling a non-existent debt owed to Ngabirano.

She further stated that the suspects had submitted forged documents and misleading information to manipulate the legal system and facilitate the fraudulent transaction.

Fortunately, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit intervened in time, instructing DFCU Bank to freeze the account, thereby preventing financial loss.
