KASESE: South Rwenzori Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku, has pledged his support to all Head teachers in Kasese district, regardless of their religious affiliation, who may face harassment from government officials.

Addressing Head teachers of Church of Uganda-founded schools and institutions in the South Rwenzori Diocese at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Bishop Baluku expressed concern over the frequent arrests of Head teachers who request parents to provide essential supplies, such as chalk, for their children’s education.

He noted that such challenges have led to some Head teachers being transferred or forced out of their positions due to pressure from neighboring schools.

The Bishop emphasized the importance of dedication and professionalism in the education sector, urging Headteachers to remain committed to their roles and continue promoting education in the region.

He also welcomed the local government’s initiative to deploy 100 new teachers to hard-to-reach areas, with adequate allowances to improve school performance.

Rev. Alice Nabirye, Secretary of the Academic Committee, commended the Head teachers for their efforts but warned against complacency.

She also urged politicians and stakeholders to refrain from interfering in school matters, as political influence has contributed to poor performance in many institutions.

Rev. Geneva Kabugho Rebeckia, Chaplain at Mundongo Primary School, attributed their school’s success to teamwork, collaboration with examiners, and fostering positive relationships with neighboring schools.

Rev. Asa Masereka Kiriaghe, Education Coordinator for the South Rwenzori Diocese, encouraged teachers to lead by example, inspiring both learners and parents to value education.
