KATAKWI: Beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Katakwi District are facing increasing losses due to persistent wolf attacks on their livestock.

In Alukucok Parish alone, 55 PDM-funded sheep were killed within two weeks. A particularly alarming incident occurred on the night of Friday, March 14, 2025, in Dadas Village, Dadas Parish, Akoboi Sub-County, where wolves invaded several homes, killing 60 sheep.

Francis Otim, the LC1 chairperson of Dadas Village, reported that these attacks have claimed a total of 95 sheep since 2024, including 35 killed last year. In Angopet, another five sheep were lost to the predators. The wolves are believed to be coming from the nearby swamps of Otuur and Omuriakori.

Otim also highlighted the growing threat posed by other wild animals in the area. He cited a past incident in which a local beast known as Eciili, resembling a bull with sharp horns, killed a 53-year-old resident, David Alemukori, at his home last year.

The wolves have been particularly brutal, attacking villages in Alukucok, Ogongora, and Asutuni in Alukucok Parish. Witnesses say the animals kill livestock, drain their blood, and remove internal organs like the liver, leaving behind only the flesh.
