KISORO: The Kisoro District Chairperson of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Laban Sibomana, has expressed concern over the recently launched People Power Front (PPF) political party, citing fears that it could cause division among supporters of Uganda’s leading opposition party.

On Thursday, a group led by Hajj Musa Misango who introduced himself as the PPF chairman along with secretary general Spartan Mukagyi and Central Region chairman Robert Rutaro, unveiled the party in Kampala.

The newly formed PPF features replicas of NUP’s distinctive slogan, symbol, and red berets, which are strongly associated with the People Power movement and the National Unity Platform.

The group claims PPF was officially registered as a political party in August 2024. However, this development has raised eyebrows among political analysts and opposition supporters.

Sibomana expressed concern that the formation of the PPF could undermine the growth and unity of the National Unity Platform, which has garnered widespread national recognition.

“I urge NUP supporters in Kisoro District and across the country to stay focused and avoid joining splinter parties designed to sow division,” Sibomana said. He added that the emergence of new parties with similar branding could be a strategic attempt to weaken NUP’s influence.
