Priests in Kabale Diocese have renewed their priestly vows and commitment to serve in God’s vineyard during the Chrism Mass celebrated at Our Lady of Good Shepherd – Rushoroza Cathedral in Kabale Municipality. The Mass was presided over by the Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira.

The Chrism Mass is a significant liturgical celebration in the Catholic Church, during which the Bishop consecrates holy oils including the Sacred Chrism and blesses other oils used in sacraments throughout the year. It is also a moment for priests to reaffirm their dedication to priestly service.

In his message, Bishop Rubaramira urged priests to prioritize their health through regular medical checkups, noting that serving in God’s ministry requires physical well-being. He also called on them to be agents of hope and new life in their communities.

Delivering the homily, the Pastoral Coordinator of Kabale Diocese, Rev. Fr. Fidelis Ndagijimana, cautioned Christians against misusing their friendships with priests in ways that could lead them away from their spiritual commitments.

Fr. Ndagijimana emphasized the importance of a priestly life grounded in prayer, service, and holiness reflecting Christ’s love.

He reminded priests of their calling to integrity, humility, and respect, and encouraged them to fully embrace the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, living a life of simplicity and dedication.

He, however, expressed concern that some individuals encountered by priests in their ministries may be negative influences, acting as agents of the Devil with intentions to derail them from their vocation.

“Priests are the strong foundation of the Church,” Fr. Ndagijimana said, urging the faithful to support their clergy through prayer, guidance, and encouragement to help them remain steadfast in their calling.
